1-DAY FLIGHT TO EGYPT This wonderful and magical day-trip begins with your pick-up from your hotel in order to go to the Pafos International Airport where the flight to Cairo will depart at 08.00 a.m. Upon arrival at Cairo at 09.00 a.m. we will be greeted by our representatives, who will assist you through immigration to the awaiting coaches. We will drive through Heliopolis, an elite residential suburb of Cairo, while our professional guide will point out places of interest and introduce you to the long history and rich culture of Egypt ‘en route’ to our first highlights, the ‘Citadel of Saladin’ and the ‘Alabaster Mosque of Mohamed Ali’. We will admire the exquisite interiors of the Mosque and view the fascinating skyline of Old Cairo from the top of the hill. Soon after, we will drive towards the Tahrir (Liberty) Square – the heart of down town Cairo where our next stop, the ‘National Archaelogical Museum’ is situated. We will have the opportunity to acquaint ourselves with Egypt’s ancient history spanning a period of 50 centuries. The Museum houses the richest collection of Egyptian Antiquities, including the magnificent Tut Ankh Amon collection. You will have the opportunity to visit The Royal Mummies Exhibition (optional) where you can see eleven unwrapped royal mummies including Ramses II, which are in an amazing state of preservation. Following the Museum visit, International buffet lunch including mineral water, coffee and tea will be served at the deluxe five star Le Meridien hotel. After lunch we will visit the only remaining Wonder of the Ancient World, the imposing Pyramids of Giza. A short drive down the valley will take us to the place where the guardian of this mortuary complex, the mysterious Sphinx lies. Let your imagination reflect on the gloriously golden days of the Pharaohs as you gaze at this mighty monument. During our visit to the Plateau of Giza we will have time to take panoramic pictures of the three Pyramids. Looking at the Pyramids fading away in the distance our drive will lead us to the Papyrus Institute where the procedure of manufacturing the oldest paper in the world, an art discovered by Ancient Egyptians, will be demonstrated. A short stop for souvenir shopping will be allowed on the way to the banks of the River Nile downtown. Here we shall board a luxurious Nile Cruising restaurant boat for a cruise on the longest waterway of the world, gliding along the same way traversed by Pharaohs, Queens and Nobles thousands of years before us. Modern Cairo is unique and the city’s skyline at dusk is very impressive from the water. A welcome drink will be served on board as traditionally dressed attendants greet our arrival. Sit back, relax and enjoy a selection of assorted cold sandwiches, oriental cookies, pastries and cakes accompanied by hot beverages. A folkloric presentation and belly dancing will be presented for our entertainment while cruising. Following the Nile cruise, we shall drive to the Cairo airport where there will be time for some duty-free shopping before the return flight to Cyprus. We will be arriving at Pafos International Airport at approximately 22.15. 2-DAY FLIGHT TO JORDAN This is a two-day, one-night trip to Jordan, which will certainly prove to be a once-in-a-lifetime experience. FIRST DAY. The oriental character of Jordan, country of the Black Iris, will charm you the minute you set foot in this country. Your guide will welcome you at the airport and accompany you by bus to Madaba. This biblical city is located 30km south of Amman. Its most important site is the ancient Greek Orthodox Church of St. John, where you can see an interesting mosaic map of the Holy Land, which dates back to 560 A.D. You proceed to the Nebo mountain, where the Prophet Moses is said to be buried. There you can also admire the ruins of the 4-6th Century church with its remarkable floor mosaics. As you approach the Dead Sea, a new world with an amazing landscape will unfold before you. Glistening white salt crystals cover the barren, stony land. You will have the opportunity to swim in the Dead Sea. Plastic beach shoes are recommended, and bear in mind that the extremely salty water will sting the eyes. The Dead Sea’s therapeutic properties and the medical remedies obtained from it are well known from the time of Herod the Great, over 2000 years ago. There will be time for you to buy some of the popular Dead Sea products. Back in Amman, you can either walk around the town’s shopping centre, relax in the luxury of your hotel or perhaps join us for the optional excursion to the ancient Greek city of Djerash. In the evening, dinner will be served at what we believe is the best restaurant in Amman, “Khan-Zaman”. Here you will sample the most delicious specialities of Arabic cuisine. In the same building you can visit the handicraft workshops or just enjoy a local drink, coffee or “argeeleh” (hubbly bubbly pie) with live background music. The drinks are not included in the price. SECOND DAY. We set off straight after breakfast and lead you to the city of Petra, the precious pearl of Jordan. The amazing “pink” city evolved from the simple caves that housed the Bedouins, who came as refugees from the Arabian Peninsula some 2000 years ago. In time, the caves were developed into the magnificent city that Petra is today. On entering Petra nothing can prepare you for the sights to come. For a few dollars you can ride a horse down to the entrance of the gorge for a walk of approximately 3 km. Comfortable clothes, walking shoes and a hat to protect you from the sun are strongly recommended. About midway, you will reach “the Treasury” or the El Knazneh, as it is known. Its size and beauty will amaze you. The sculpting technique of the entire city will leave you with wonderful memories to take back home. Lunch is served in restaurant at Petra (drinks are not included). The tour ends with the return journey to Queen Alia airport to catch your fight back to Cyprus. |
